In My Mother’s Skin: What We’ve Learned From Our Moms

It’s the little things that moms do, that we’ll never forget. Sometimes it’s the way they once cut your sandwich, or the gentle hug when you need it most. And often, it’s what we learn from her, in this case naturally, we look to our mothers and remember their best beauty advice. This Mother’s Day we asked our team; what is the most important thing your mom taught you about skincare?

Here are their answers:

My mom always taught me that quality over quantity is important when it comes to skincare, and just about everything.” Carrie Gross – Co-Founder & CEO, who lives up to this mantra with the quality skincare brand she created with her husband.

“My mom always made sure that my sisters and myself knew that true beauty is on the inside, not the outside. Best advice ever! But a little Ferulic and Retinol Overnight Serum never hurts.” Coco Smith – Account Executive, who recommends the best nighttime serum, you’ll wake up glowing.

My mother always told me to never go to bed without taking my makeup off, only pat gently around the eye area – never rub or pull, and always smile.” Erin Manwaring – Account Executive, who always follows up with a brightening eye cream to enhance her skin regimen.

My mother was truly my biggest inspiration for all things beauty.  As a child I was mesmerized by how a busy, single mom of 4 children could somehow make the time for a skincare routine. Somehow she managed to always look impeccable- skincare, makeup, outfit!  This is one of the biggest lessons I learned and try to teach clients every day. That no matter how busy you are, there is always time for skin care!” Alberto Gonzalez – Account Executive, who finds the time to exfoliate, every single day.

I struggled with acne as a teenager – and still do!  My mom taught me the importance of not picking my skin and took me to my first dermatologist to properly treat it.” Jess Abrams – Director, Product Development, who leads the creation of the ground-breaking acne treatments.

My grandmother raised me and I always remember her saying “a little goes a long way”. And it’s true if you buy an effective product and apply it correctly you usually don’t need a lot to get the job done.” – Dawn Cavaliere – Graphic Designer, who can’t live without a dollop of hydration that proves her grandmother’s manta.

When I was a little girl my mom taught me that I should wash my face with a facial cleanser every morning and every night.” Sue Thomas – Global Director of Sales, who cleanses morning and night, no matter what.

“My mom always tells me to put sunblock on everyday even if it doesn’t look sunny.” Michelle Velasco – PR Coordinator, who relies on one pioneering SPF that does it all.
