Skin Talk: Aleja From The Beauty Surfer

She has an eye for skincare that makes a splash! An interior designer with a big passion for makeup, skincare and basically all things beauty, meet the radiant Aleja Franco. The Colombian born bedroom beauty blogger shares her story, from a life-changing Sephora ‘stumble’ to her #1 skincare tip.

What do you look for in good skincare?

Effectiveness, of course! I also look for ingredients and formulations that are not harmful to my health. That’s why I love Dr. Dennis Gross because I can see visible results overnight (especially with the peel pads) and I know they carefully choose every single ingredient to create high standard products. I love when a company is completely transparent about their formulations.

Tell us something about yourself?

I’m an interior designer born and raised in sunny Colombia. I moved to New York City five years ago and worked full-time as an interior designer doing mostly cool residential protects (my boss worked at Vogue for 11 years so we had pretty amazing clients). Growing up, I had a huge passion for beauty, especially skincare and haircare. But in my country that basically meant I had to be either be an esthetician or a dermatologist but I wasn’t overly interested in either. I definitely enjoy the other side of beauty, being the “guinea pig“, testing, using and experimenting with all kinds of products. That’s why a year ago I created my blog which it’s slowly becoming my full time job.

Do you have a favorite Dr. Dennis Gross product? Tell us why!

Oh, yes I do! My absolute favorite would have to be the Alpha Beta Extra Strength Peel Pads. I stumbled upon them casually at the Sephora check-out line. I use them once and I was hooked for life! I love them because they are highly effective, with only one use my skin is transformed. They completely decongested my pores (bye-bye black heads), they brightened my complexion and completely smoothed my skin, creating a flawless canvas for makeup application.

Do you have a #1 tip for skincare habits?

Actually three boring but very important tips! Always use sunscreen. That would be my biggest tip. Next is to drink plenty of water and finally, double cleanse your skin at night. Even if you don’t wear makeup there a ton of tiny particles from pollution that will clog your pores and age your skin. So those three are key! Especially to wear sunscreen, I cannot stress that enough.

What’s your can’t-live-without items from skincare to makeup?

My can’t live without item is my Sephora lash curler!  I have big, long lashes that are ALWAYS looking down. So for me the simple action of using this tool makes all the difference. Otherwise I’ll look sleepy all day. Another item I cannot live without is the Garnier Anti-Dark Circle concealer roller. It’s basically the lightest brightener concealer on the market. I use it to brighten under eyes and to cover any discoloration. It adds coverage yet it’s completely undetectable and super natural.  Last but not least I have to use a goopy, thick gloss… I have super dry lips, so I’m constantly re-applying and using any king of hydrating gloss.

When it comes to skincare I cannot live without sunscreen. My biggest concern are sun spots (I had way too much sun growing up in Colombia) so I ALWAYS carry around my sun block and make sure my skin is completely shielded. My newest (very serious) obsession is the Instant Radiance Sun Defense. It makes my skin look radiant and color corrects imperfection, so I can even skip foundation.

What are the biggest changes you have seen when using our skincare?

Definitely a boost of radiance and smoother, brighter skin. The medical-grade formula in the Alpha Beta Extra Strength Peel Pads give my skin a fresh start. The radiance is undeniable.

Would you call yourself a peel addict after trying our peels?

YES! I’m a complete peel addict. I found the different type of peels target different concerns so I can be very specific about the treatment I want to use and adjust them to my skin needs. And, they always deliver visible results.
