A true believer in the gentle power of acids, Caroline of Skin Obsessor knows that addiction ain’t such a bad thing. Especially when it comes to our doctor’s recommended daily doses.
What made you so interested in beauty & skincare?
Beauty is something so deeply personal, and for me, skincare became equivalent to self-care. It has, and never will be, about the selfies or search for perfection. Our skin shows everything, both good and bad: from stress, digestive issues and hormonal imbalances to joy and overall health. I love the search of finding new products that I love using and sharing those with others. My skincare AM and PM routines are the bookends to my day. Nothing makes me happier than healthy skin that’s properly taken care of.
When did you discover Dr. Dennis Gross? Share your story.
Acids, acids, acids!!! The Alpha Beta Daily Peels, of course. I think every skincare lover remembers the moment he or she discovered (proper) acids. I remember the traditional acne acid pads growing up, the ones most people believed to be the quick fix, loaded with SD alcohol. The thing about Dr. Gross is that his line of products seems to revolve around acids, which is how I believe it should be. Why? Because a skincare routine does not work properly without them. Every single product applied afterwards penetrates more deeply, thus working more effectively. Also, acids help pretty much every skin problem. People get scared by the word “peel,” but you’re not at an uncertified medi-spa nor are you Samantha Jones.
Tell us something about yourself? We’d like to get to know you.
I am a serious Francophile and have lived in Paris, London, and New York. I grew up as a ballet dancer, which was a love that led to me working for New York City Ballet. When in New York City, you’ll find me in my neighborhood (West Village) or at Lincoln Center.
What are your top beauty products?
May Lindstrom’s Honey Mud, Biologique Recherche’s P50 1970, Dr. Dennis Gross’s Ferulic + Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Peel Pads, Vintner’s Daughter’s Active Botanical Serum, and Caudalie’s Premier Cru eye cream. (Even listing these I know I’m missing some of my staples like Tatcha’s Pure Camellia Cleansing Oil.)
Do you have a favorite product from the doctor? Tell us why.
Irrefutably, the Ferulic + Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Peel Pads. While I do use the Extra Strength Alpha Beta Daily Peels very (very) regularly, the Ferulic + Retinol pads work a special kind of magic. The balance (and stability) of the ingredients chosen make a truly unique product that is hard to live without. Even being extremely gentle, they have not once left me disappointed with the results. Who doesn’t need antioxidant support, plus retinol and a boost of collagen? It’s hard to describe the effects, but let’s just say it’s a ‘face-lift pad’ – the ingredients puts your face back together.
What’s your #1 beauty tip for healthy skin?
My #1 tip would be the skincare equation I live by: acids, oils, probiotics/fish oil, and sleep. Repeat.
